Profectronics GmbH Linz, Austria Test bench engineering · Nuclear measurement

Test benches and measurement systems from one house.

From a single measuring point to a containerised plant. Mechanics, electronics, software and measurement from design through to acceptance — for thermal, fluid and power electronics testing and for nuclear measurement.

Five fields — what are you testing?

Fields

Five fields, one house

What differs is the medium, the size and the measured quantity — not the craft underneath. In every one of these fields, the mechanics, electronics, software and measurement come out of the same workshop.

The operating envelope

This is the window we work in

One modular system, four fields of application. What differs is the medium, the pressure and the quantity — not the plant underneath.

0,01 0,1 1 10 100 1.000 0,1 1 10 100 1.000 10.000 PRÜFDRUCK ABSOLUT · BAR VOLUMENSTROM · L/MIN 04 · MEDIENKONDITIONIERUNG 01 · WÄRMEPUMPEN UND KÄLTETECHNIK 02 · RECHENZENTRUMSKÜHLUNG 03 · LEISTUNGSELEKTRONIK

Design limits of the modular system, plotted logarithmically. The fields overlap because the same plant serves more than one task. The yellow dot travels through the map as an example operating point.

These are design limits, not a commitment for a particular project. 1,000 bar and 6,000 l/min do not exist in the same plant. What is possible in your plant is written in the functional specification — and it is written before money goes into hardware.

To the projects

What fluids work means here

Three things that together make a test bench

Deliver only one of them and you have not delivered a test result.

01

Conditioning the medium

Water-glycol, oil, fuel, brine, nitrogen, compressed air, helium, air. Temperature, pressure and flow rate are controlled and held — not set once and hoped for. Two kelvin of drift turn a measurement into an estimate.

02

Operating the test item

Supplied with fluid, fed with power, driven over CAN, CAN FD, LIN or Modbus. Residual bus simulation where it is needed. A test bench without a bus connection measures a dead component.

03

Running the test and proving it

Performance map, endurance run, leak test, end-of-line, position and function testing. At the end there is a record with a time stamp, the test equipment number and the calibration status — one that can still be explained a year later.

Scope of work

Fluids, electrical engineering and software from one house

The software is part of it. It is neither bought in nor subcontracted.

The most common reason a test bench ends up not measuring what it was meant to measure is not the wrong pump. It is the point where the mechanical side hands something to the electrical side, and the electrical side hands it to the programmer — with each of them sitting in a different company. Here that point does not exist: the PLC, the visualisation, the control loops, the measuring chain and the test sequence are built in the same house as the pipework and the control cabinet.

The five stages

01

Concept and requirement specification

From the customer's requirement specification we write a functional specification that is traceable chapter by chapter — before money goes into hardware.

02

Mechanics

Thermal and hydraulic calculation, design, pipework, pressure testing, factory acceptance.

03

Electrical engineering

Design, EPLAN documentation, control cabinet build, wiring, safety engineering and emergency stop concept.

04

Software and commissioning

PLC, visualisation, control loops, calibration of the measuring chains, FAT and SAT, CE documentation.

05

Maintenance and modification

Annual maintenance, calibration, extension and modification — a fixed part of every quotation.

How we deliver

Knowledge in house, manufacturing in the network

Design, project management and responsibility for quality stay in house. Manufacturing steps go to a fixed network of vetted suppliers. Capacity then grows with the order book without building up fixed costs that you would end up paying for. Nothing changes for you: the contracting party, the person you talk to and the warranty stay with us.

In house

  • Design and engineering
  • Software development
  • Project management
  • Commissioning and acceptance
  • Quality and conformity

In the network

  • Machining and sheet metal work
  • Pipework
  • Control cabinet manufacture
  • Surface treatment
  • Transport and installation support

What that means for you

One contract, one person to talk to, one warranty. The supply chain is our problem, not yours. Where a component has a long lead time we name the date in the quotation, not later in the project.

Service: four levels, kept apart

The levels do not differ in quality but in who pays for them and how firmly they are promised. A response time is only a commitment if there is a person behind it who is actually reachable at that hour.

Level What it covers Who pays
Warranty Putting right defects in what we delivered us
Maintenance Recurring inspection, calibration and servicing to a plan maintenance contract
Fault clearance A call-out outside the warranty, charged by time and material the client
Modification and extension In law not a service but a new order with its own acceptance the client

We promise what the team we actually have can keep, not what sounds good. The specific times for each service level are set out in the maintenance contract and discussed before it is signed — not promised on a website.

CE, ATEX and the paperwork

Where we supply the plant as a whole we act as the manufacturer and take on the CE marking with a risk assessment, technical file, operating instructions and declaration of conformity. Where we supply a part, we provide the documents the manufacturer needs for their own declaration — and we say so in the quotation, so that responsibility is not left open once the project runs. The new Machinery Regulation applies from 2027-01-20; our documents are laid out for it.

Where we draw the line

What we build — and what we do not

A list of services that promises everything says nothing. So this one also states where our remit ends today.

We take on We do not take on
Test benches for thermal, fluid and power electronics testing — conditioning, supply to the test item, control, measuring chain — from design through to acceptance Instruments and sensors as a product of our own. We buy those in and answer for their integration, not for their manufacture
All of the software in the test bench: PLC, visualisation, control loops, test sequence, records and calibration of the measuring chain Test bench software as a licensed standard product for other manufacturers’ plants
Modification, extension and maintenance of existing test benches, including those built by others Test runs and measurement campaigns on behalf of customers. A test centre of our own is in preparation; today it does not exist
CE marking as the manufacturer, including risk assessment and technical file Testing and calibration services to ISO 17025. For those we work with accredited bodies

In preparation, not available today: a test centre of our own, where we would operate plants and run tests for customers — for houses that need a measurement campaign but no plant of their own. That is an intention, not an offer. Until the centre exists, running the test remains the operator’s business. If this concerns you, call us — then we will know how seriously to take it.

Where we stand

A supplier, not a competitor

Our customers are engineering service providers, manufacturers and operators of test facilities. They carry out the tests and sell the results. We build the plant they do it with, and we do not enter their market. That separation is not a courtesy but a basis for doing business: whoever builds his customers’ test benches must not bid for their orders at the same time.

Tell us what is to be measured.

Five details are enough for a first solid conversation: the test item, the medium, the ranges for pressure, flow rate and temperature, where the plant will stand and when it has to be there. A requirement specification is welcome but not a precondition.
